Tax Institute 2021), the Bloomberg Tax Management Portfolio entitled, Tax Aspects of Settlements and Judgments (522), as well as hundreds of related articles.  Wood is also the author of Qualified Settlement Funds and Section 468B, No. 738 (Bloomberg) and Qualified Settlement Funds and Section 468B (Tax Institute), and regularly advises plaintiffs, defendants and settlement administrators on the tax treatment of legal settlements, structured settlements and qualified settlement funds.  He regularly serves as an expert witness on tax matters.

We write numerous formal tax opinions every year.  The topics range from qualified small business stock, capital gain characterization issues, the tax treatment of litigation settlements, the deductibility of legal fees, constructive receipt and other timing of income issues, and numerous other subjects.

We also have an active tax controversy practice, protesting, appealing and disputing tax assessments.  We handle tax controversies ranging from simple audits to eggshell audits and even to criminal investigations.  We have experience in cases before the California Office of Tax Appeals, U.S. Tax Court, District Court, and appellate courts.
