Alex Brown advises individuals and business entities on a broad range of federal and international tax planning and tax controversy matters. A native of Texas, Alex received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Texas A&M University, graduating summa cum laude with Foundation Honors. He received his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School.

Prior to joining Wood LLP, Alex worked in Houston, Texas, at an international law firm. He was part of the income tax group and worked with corporate, partnership, LLC, and individual clients. In addition to responding to tax questions within a large and diversified law firm, Alex drafted corporate documents and disclosures, and prepared tax opinions.

Alex also conducted extensive research in tax and related fields, including corporate, securities and regulatory fields. He often worked with clients in the energy industry, and in that capacity regularly handled transactions involving the structuring of equity, debt, and governance for the exploration of new mineral interests. With some enterprises in this field he helped qualify them as master limited partnerships.

He also had experience at another global law firm in Houston as a Summer Associate during 2007 and 2008. His experience included work in litigation, trusts & estates and corporate matters.

In his prior experience and at Wood LLP, Alex has had significant responsibilities in tax controversy matters. He advises clients and drafts advocacy documents in disputes with the IRS over controversies ranging from modest amounts to disputes exceeding $100 million.
